Position Summary:
This academic year, tenure track, regular faculty assistant professor is expected to teach courses in health geography and GIS according to the needs of the department and as directed by the department chair. The faculty member will also serve as an advisor to undergraduates as directed by the department chair. The faculty member will also serve as an advisor to graduate students to sustain a competitive research program. The faculty member will conduct research in an Earth science or related discipline, publish such research in peer reviewed journals, present findings at professional conferences, and submit proposals to extramural competitive funding agencies to fund this work. The faculty member is expected to attend faculty meetings, and to participate in committees at the department level and the college or university level. The faculty member is expected to participate in some outreach activities as directed by their chair or dean. The faculty member is expected to complete annual trainings, submit grades, and provide student feedback in a timely manner.

The College of Science is also recruiting new faculty in biology (ecological immunology), geography (health geography), geology (critical materials), physics (research area open), and statistics or applied mathematics (for independent or collaborative research in nutrition and women's health).

Minimum Education/Degree Required:
Listed degree qualification is required at time of hire.
Required Qualifications:
  • Ph.D. in Geography or related field
  • Experience in teaching graduate and undergraduate courses meeting the needs of the department
  • Expertise in health geography and GIS, as indicated by dissertation research, peer-reviewed publications.
  • Experience to develop an externally funded research program.

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Demonstrated scholarship and teaching excellence in geography or a related field
  • Ability to teach GIS courses.
  • Experience for collaborative research with UI faculty.
  • Excellent written and oral communication skills.
