Swim Instructor (Short-term)

Salary Schedule: Miscellaneous Pay

Months Per Year: Through June 30, 2026 (extension contingent on Board approval)

The Swim Instructor provides swim instruction to children of all ages enrolled in the swim school.

Duties and Responsibilities

The duties below are representative of the duties of the classification and are not intended to cover all of the duties performed by the incumbent(s) of any particular position.   1. Plan lessons and follow the instruction curriculum
  2. Present proper demonstrations of skills in the water with students
  3. Maintain a safe and positive teaching environment
  4. Effectively communicate student progress to parents
  5. Teach basic swimming skills to children ages 3 to 12 years old
  6. Teach both group and private lessons to children and adults

Employment Standards (acquired through education, training, and/or experience)

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
  1. Adapt and be flexible
  2. Friendly, outgoing, and able to motivate students
  3. Anticipate possible hazardous situations and ensure the safety of students
  4. Teach weekday evenings from 3:00 pm - 8:00 pm and weekends 9:00 am - 2:30 pm


Job Requirements:
  • CPR certified
  • Two (2) years minimum of swim teaching experience
  • Demonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, ethnic, neurodivergent, and LGBTQIA+ backgrounds of community college students, faculty and staff

Preferred
  • Lifeguard certified
  • Five (5) years of swim teaching experience
