Salary Schedule: Placement on the adjunct faculty salary schedule is based upon education and credited experience. Initial placement can range from $60.01 to $75.10 per hour (Salary Schedule AJ - Special Rate).

The Librarian hired in this position will provide reference service and instruction on the use of print and electronic information resources to students, faculty, staff, and the community. The Librarian may also be assigned to perform or participate in the following:

Duties and Responsibilities:
  1. Collection development
  2. Implementation of print and electronic information resources and services
  3. Library research orientations
  4. Development and instruction of credit classes in Library Studies and information competency
  5. Activities designed to promote library Services to students, faculty, and staff
  6. Collaborate with other college faculty in developing information competency components within their disciplines
  7. Participate in the development and maintenance of the library webpage
  8. Creation of instructional support materials in print and online formats
  9. Catalog library materials, using OCLC
  10. Train and supervise library technicians in cataloging and technical processing
  11. Computer programming to support library services
  12. Perform other duties as required by contract and general institutional needs
  13. Organize and manage archives
  14. Participate in the development and delivery of public program events
  15. Participate in the design and delivery of library services to on campus and remote users and online students

Employment Standards (acquired through education, training, and/or experience)
Knowledge of:

  1. Print and electronic information resources and services
  2. And proficiency in the development of print and web-based instructional materials for credit and/or no-credit courses, orientation sessions, workshops, tutorials, and information pathfinders
  3. And experience in collection development

Skills and Abilities:
  1. Provide reference assistance to students, faculty, and staff in a technologically advanced library environment
  2. Teach in traditional and distance education environments
  3. Work sensitively and effectively with students, faculty and staff in a team-based environment as well as independently
  4. Catalog using OCLC for original and copy cataloging
  5. Facilitate participation of faculty in the development of library materials and services
  6. Communicate in written and oral forms in a language in addition to English
  7. Organize and manage archival collections
  8. Provide effective and user friendly access services for on campus and online students
  9. An understanding of, sensitivity to, and respect for the diverse academic, socioeconomic, ethnic, religious, and cultural backgrounds, disability, and sexual orientation of community college students, faculty and staff
  10. effective oral and written communication


Job Requirements:
  • Master's or above in library science, library and information science OR equivalent (see below).
  • Demonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to, and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, ethnic, neurodivergent, and LGBTQIA+ backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice both within and outside of the classroom.

a) Degree Equivalence
The employee or applicant possesses a degree(s) with similar content to those listed for the relevant discipline. The name of the degree is close to that specified on the Disciplines List but the degree either has a different title or area of expertise or the coursework is slightly different. Equivalence is established through analysis of transcripts and coursework.

b) Academic Background Equivalence
Related to disciplines in which a Master's degree is not generally expected or available. The employee or applicant must have completed at least 24 semester units (or equivalent) of coursework in the academic field being applied for, and must possess at least the equivalent level of achievement and the equivalent in breadth, depth of understanding, and rigor in each of the following:

i. a broad cultural education usually met by the general education requirements for any Bachelor's or Associate's degree, and

ii. a detailed study of the discipline in breadth, depth, and rigor, usually met by coursework required for the degree major.

c) Professional Achievement Equivalence
The employee or applicant must have completed the general education requirements for any Bachelor's or Associate's degree, and show evidence of outstanding professional achievement and/or substantial training in the requested field. The employee or applicant must submit substantial evidence, which demonstrates that their preparation, teaching experience, work experience, and ability are equivalent to those expected from a person who meets the minimum qualifications.
