Reporting to the Director, the Lead Masters Level Clinician plays a vital role in supporting student well-being and advancing the mission of the Counseling & Mental Health Center (CMHC). This position provides clinical leadership and supervision for masters-level clinicians and delivers direct services including individual and group counseling, crisis intervention, intake assessments, and case management. The Lead also engages in outreach, supports campus-wide mental health initiatives, and collaborates with campus partners. This dynamic role blends clinical service, leadership, and administrative responsibilities to expand the impact of CMHC services.
Position Overview:
The Lead Masters Level Clinician plays a critical leadership and clinical role within the Counseling & Mental Health Center (CMHC), supporting the emotional and psychological well-being of the student population. This position serves as both a seasoned mental health provider and a supervisor for a team of masters-level clinicians. They are also a central resource for consultation to faculty, staff, and other campus constituents regarding student mental health and behavioral concerns.
This position provides direct leadership and supervision to masters-level clinical staff, which includes assigning responsibilities, monitoring progress, conducting regular supervision, and completing annual performance evaluations. The lead clinician fosters a collaborative and supportive environment by facilitating ongoing training and professional development opportunities, staying current with clinical best practices, and promoting high standards of care within the team. In coordination with the Director and other leadership staff, this position helps shape service delivery models, ensures adherence to ethical and legal standards, and contributes to the overall direction of the CMHC.
In addition to clinical and supervisory duties, the Lead Masters Level Clinician is actively involved in program development and administrative functions. They participate in the coordination and implementation of campus-wide initiatives related to student mental health, contribute to policies and procedures that enhance service efficiency, and manage the administration of outreach programming by responding to requests and assigning appropriate staff. The role also involves representing the CMHC in university meetings and working groups, advocating for student needs, and collaborating with campus partners such as student affairs, residence life, academic support, and health services to develop integrated approaches to student well-being.
Required Experience:
- Providing clinical and counseling services to an adult population
- Providing risk assessment, crisis interventions and brief counseling
- Supervisory experience
Required Education:
- Masters Degree in counseling, psychology, social work, or a related field
Required Other:
- Licensure in counseling, psychology, social work, or a related field in the state of Idaho or ability to acquire licensure by time of hire
Additional Preferred:
- Licensure as a LCSW in the State of Idaho
- Experience providing treatment for psychological trauma
- Experience with the assessment and treatment of substance use disorders
- Experience with Biofeedback
- Experience working in a college or university counseling center
- Experience with specific counseling modalities (e.g., CBT, DBT, motivational interviewing)
- Knowledge of mental health resources in the community
- Experience in working with a multidisciplinary team in a fast-paced and dynamic work environment
- Excellent communication, interpersonal, and organizational skills
- Knowledge of relevant ethical standards and guidelines
