Primary Function:

The Assistant Professor, Emergency Medical Technologies is primarily responsible for teaching a variety of courses in the discipline of Emergency Medical Technologies; specifically for courses within the paramedic academy.

Because Emergency Medical Education classes are TOP-coded for Career Technical Education (CTE), the selected candidate for the Assistant Professor, Emergency Medical Technologies must be willing to work with industry leaders in the community to maintain our courses' relevance.

Salary:

Starting salary range: $77,011.42 $122,363.70 annually.

Academic training and teaching experience will form the basis for salary computation as determined by placement on the regular salary schedule of the College. A maximum of step 8 at the appropriate salary grade will be awarded to new faculty. Minimum Qualifications:

Must meet all qualifications listed under 1) and 3) below:

1. Must meet one of the sets of qualifications listed under a) through b):

a) Any bachelor's degree or higher AND two years of professional experience in an allied health field.

b) Any associate degree AND six years of professional experience in an allied health field.

c) A combination of education and experience that is at least the equivalent of the qualifications in either 1) or 2) above. You must complete and attach the Application for Equivalency form (www.palomar.edu/hr/equivalency-app/), if you do not possess the specific minimum qualifications as stated above, which includes degrees that have not been awarded at the time of submitting the application.

2. Qualified by education and experience with at least 40 hours of documented teaching methodology instruction in areas related to methods, materials, and evaluation of instruction by time of appointment. Possession of one of the following certificates would meet this qualification:

a) California State Fire Marshal (CSFM) Fire Instructor 1A and 1B.

b) National Fire Academy (NFA) Fire Service Instructional Methodology course.

c) National Association of EMS Educators Level 1 course.

3. Knowledgeable in the course content of the January 2009 United States Department of Transportation (U.S. DOT) National Emergency Medical Services Education Standards DOT HS 811 077 E.

Only coursework completed at, and degrees awarded by, accredited institutions recognized by the U.S. Department of Education will be considered as satisfying the minimum qualifications. Coursework and degrees that are completed outside of the United States are required to have transcripts evaluated (evaluation to U.S. equivalency and a course by course analysis) by an appropriate U.S. credentials evaluation service. NOTE: For professional experience, a year is defined as equivalent to 40 hours per week for 10 months. Professional experience includes Paramedic experience, or higher-level professional experience (i.e. Nursing or Physician experience).
