Position Summary:
The Department of Theatre Arts at the University of Idaho invites applications for a remote, full-time, Clinical Assistant Professor of Theatre with expertise across a wide range of graduate-level theatre subjects. This non-tenure track position will begin Fall 2026 with a 3/4 teaching load.

Primary Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be expected to teach graduate courses in several of the following areas:
  • Shakespeare Scholarship: including pedagogy, history, and rigorous text analysis
  • Feminist Theatre Practice: encompassing drama literature, theatre history, and contemporary intersectional feminist directing
  • Directing: history, theory, and applied practice
  • Theatre Pedagogy: including culturally responsive and trauma-informed approaches, Shakespeare pedagogy, and bootleg/fugitive pedagogical practices
  • Theatre for Social Change: such as Theatre of the Oppressed, Playback Theatre, applied theatre history and theory, practice, and program design
  • Additionally, the candidate will be expected to participate in student recruitment activities, and unit, college and university-level governance.
  • Other duties as assigned by the Department Chair.

Teaching Modality:
  • Must be able to teach remotely in both synchronous and asynchronous formats
  • Familiarity with Canvas Course Management System is strongly preferred

Minimum Education/Degree Required:
Listed degree qualification is required at time of hire.
Required Qualifications:
  • MFA in Theatre
  • Experience teaching college-level theatre courses
  • Experience with online education and distance learning technologies

Preferred Qualifications:
  • Evidence of a professional directing portfolio
  • Evidence of innovative teaching and directing practices
  • Ability to develop innovative curricular content as needed
