Posting Context Statement:
The Udekwu laboratory is supported in part by an NSF grant looking into the recovery of microbial communities in post wildfire arboreal forests. This position is to support the researchers working in my laboratory on this project and entails the growth and stress adaptation of Bacillus species. The goal of these studies is to understand how microbial communities interact and evolve. We are one half of a joint lab endeavor with the Marx lab, where we share resources, have joint laboratory meetings and presentations, as well as a common goal.
Position Overview:
Performs research activities and analysis, recording observations and measurements, and reports results. Participates in analyzing and preparing results for publication. Works under general supervision.

- Prepare standard solutions for calibration and analyses
- Interpret test results and comparing with determined standards and limits
- Collect laboratory or field data
- Conduct research and analysis of scientific data
- Participate in research design discussions
- Perform literature reviews
- Prepare reports
- Compare data and historical records for trend verification
- Develop reference files, comparison charts, and graphs on research data
- Assist with site inspections and field oversight
- May have supervisory responsibilities
- Other duties as assigned
Required Experience:
- Following pre-established procedures or protocols
- Collecting and reviewing scientific data
- Keeping complete and accurate records
- Working in a team environment to accomplish shared goals
Required Education:
- Bachelors Degree in microbiology, biochemistry, bio-engineering, or related field
Required Other:
Additional Preferred:
- Experience with research lab organization or management
- Previous use of Electronic Laboratory Notebook reporting
- One year of research experience
- Work with continuous bioreactors or cultures and / or sequencing or protein profiling a merit
- Knowledge in performing data analysis in R
Physical Requirements & Working Conditions:
- May require working with toxic, volatile, and corrosive chemicals and/or carcinogenic substances
- May require working with Biosafety level 2 (BSL2) microorganisms
- Ability to lift, carry and/or otherwise move objects weighing up to 25 lbs
