FLSA Status: Exempt
Salary Schedule: Placement on the adjunct faculty salary schedule is based upon education and credited experience. Pending any course assignment, initial placement can range as follows: Lab Course (Salary Schedule HB) - $89.20 up to $130.94 per hour. Lecture Course (Salary Schedule AJ) - $103.85 up to $151.07.

Duties and Responsibilities
- Teach classes as assigned in Phlebotomy.
- Consult with students during regularly scheduled office hours.
- Maintain expertise in current teaching and discipline technologies.
- Perform other duties as required by contract, collective bargaining agreement, and general institutional needs. The College offers day and evening classes.
Employment Standards (acquired through education, training, and/or experience)
Knowledge of:
- Various successful clinical teaching techniques
- And understanding of current phlebotomy issues and trends
Skills and Abilities:
- Recent clinical experience in phlebotomy
- Willingness to update skills if needed
- Maintain certification and/or licensure by attending continuing education classes or home study courses
- Teach in clinical areas as assigned. These positions may require assignment to evenings or weekends
- Willing to actively participate and contribute to changes in the phlebotomy program at department and team meetings
- A commitment to staying abreast of new trends in phlebotomy and the clinical setting
- A commitment to supporting gender and ethnically diverse students enrolled in phlebotomy
- Ensure consistent and appropriate monitoring of student progress in the clinical setting
- Use teaching methods that engage students actively in their learning and encourage them to learn problem solving skills
- Adapt teaching methodology to meet the needs of an ethnically and culturally diverse group of students
- Assist students in the acquisition, analysis and evaluation of knowledge and skills in the clinical setting
- A willingness to work with faculty and staff in a spirit of collegiality at department, division, college, and district levels
- Reflect on and evaluate the effectiveness of one's pedagogy and modify techniques to engage students
- A commitment to the SMCCCD goal of integrating writing skills across the curriculum
- A commitment to the goals and ideals of the teaching profession and enthusiasm for the mission of the community college
Job Requirements:
- Possession of any Bachelor's degree AND two years of phlebotomy experience OR any Associate degree AND six years of phlebotomy experience OR the equivalent (see below)
- A Certified Phlebotomy Technician with at least three years experience in phlebotomy within the previous five years
- A current California Phlebotomy Certification (CPT) (in good standing)
- Demonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to, and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, ethnic, neurodivergent, and LGBTQIA+ backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice both within and outside of the classroom.

a) Degree Equivalence
The employee or applicant possesses a degree(s) with similar content to those listed for the relevant discipline. The name of the degree is close to that specified on the Disciplines List but the degree either has a different title or area of expertise or the coursework is slightly different. Equivalence is established through analysis of transcripts and coursework.
b) Academic Background Equivalence
Related to disciplines in which a Master's degree is not generally expected or available. The employee or applicant must have completed at least 24 semester units (or equivalent) of coursework in the academic field being applied for, and must possess at least the equivalent level of achievement and the equivalent in breadth, depth of understanding, and rigor in each of the following:
i. a broad cultural education usually met by the general education requirements for any Bachelor's or Associate's degree, and
ii. a detailed study of the discipline in breadth, depth, and rigor, usually met by coursework required for the degree major.
c) Professional Achievement Equivalence
The employee or applicant must have completed the general education requirements for any Bachelor's or Associate's degree, and show evidence of outstanding professional achievement and/or substantial training in the requested field. The employee or applicant must submit substantial evidence, which demonstrates that their preparation, teaching experience, work experience, and ability are equivalent to those expected from a person who meets the minimum qualifications.
