Part-Time Distance Education Coordinator (Pool)

Salary Schedule: Placement on the adjunct faculty salary schedule is based upon education and credited experience. Initial placement can range from $60.01 to $75.10 per hour (Salary Schedule AJ - Special Rate).

The duties below are representative of the duties of the classification and are not intended to cover all of the duties performed by the incumbent(s) of any particular position. The ideal candidate has excellent organizational skills and is a sophisticated communicator who interfaces with colleagues, faculty, staff, and administration at the campus and district to assist with project management, training, documenting, and reporting on initiatives relating to distance education.

Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Facilitate the development of projects in support of distance education courses and programs
  2. Provide leadership in promoting effective distance education pedagogies at the College in collaboration with instructional designers
  3. Lead campus efforts to align the College's distance education programs with guidelines related to accreditation
  4. Coordinate the College's distance education courses and programs following state Title V and Chancellor's Office regulations
  5. Actively participate as a delegate for the College's membership in the statewide Distance Education Coordinators Organization (DECO)
  6. Consult regularly with deans and directors concerning the delivery of appropriate distance education courses and support services
  7. Regularly attend Curriculum Committee meetings and assist with Distance Education addendum consultation and facilitation
  8. Regularly attend assigned committee meetings (i.e., Technology Advisory Committee, District Distance Education Advisory Committee) to provide input in the development of online instructional programs and faculty training/professional development
  9. Work collaboratively with faculty, staff, and students to ensure that current and future distance education activities and technologies meet student and community needs
  10. Work collaboratively as a member of the Center for Transformative Teaching & Learning team and support facilitating its goals centered on distance education
  11. Contribute suggestions for improving and maintaining websites relating to distance education
  12. Prepare and participate in developing reports as necessary in support of the distance education strategic planning
  13. Provide information, as needed, to assist the Dean in preparing the operational budget as related to distance education
  14. Maintain relationships with student support programs as they relate to equity in distance education
  15. Maintain office and support hours at times appropriate to the needs of faculty, students, and staff, as well as participate in department and division meetings
  16. Perform related duties and responsibilities as assigned

Job Requirements:
  • Master's degree or above in an applicable discipline, either directly offered or indirectly related to instruction at a community college OR the equivalent (see below)
  • Three years of online/hybrid instructional experience at the community college or university level
  • Three years of relevant leadership experience working in online education development, including program planning and subsequent reporting
  • Demonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to, and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, ethnic, neurodivergent, and LGBTQIA+ backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff as these factors relate to the need for equity-minded practice both within and outside of the classroom.

Preferred
  • Recent experience working with racially minoritized and other disproportionately-impacted students in educational contexts, and an understanding of how historical patterns of exclusion of these groups within higher education and particular fields shape patterns of participation and outcomes
  • Willingness to examine and remediate one's instructional, relational, and classroom practices to more effectively engage and support racially minoritized and other disproportionately impacted students
  • Experience and skill with addressing inequity in the classroom and on campus
  • Experience and expertise in culturally responsive teaching in technology
  • Demonstrated ability to address equity gaps within technology courses and classrooms
  • Demonstrated knowledge of the implications of the Hispanic-Serving and Asian American and Native American Pacific Islander-Serving Institution designations for institutional, departmental, and instructional practices
  • Experience teaching in a community college online environment
  • Experience with distance education programming and development in a community college setting
  • Experience in professional development/professional learning development, and leadership
  • Experience leading programs and/or projects in distance education in a higher education environment
  • Understanding of compliance regulations regarding online instruction
  • Experience with instructional design practices and methods
  • Experience with instructional technology applications and support
  • Bilingual/bi-cultural skills

a) Degree Equivalence
The employee or applicant possesses a degree(s) with similar content to those listed for the relevant discipline. The name of the degree is close to that specified on the Disciplines List but the degree either has a different title or area of expertise or the coursework is slightly different. Equivalence is established through analysis of transcripts and coursework.

b) Academic Background Equivalence
Related to disciplines in which a Master's degree is not generally expected or available. The employee or applicant must have completed at least 24 semester units (or equivalent) of coursework in the academic field being applied for, and must possess at least the equivalent level of achievement and the equivalent in breadth, depth of understanding, and rigor in each of the following:

i. a broad cultural education usually met by the general education requirements for any Bachelor's or Associate's degree, and

ii. a detailed study of the discipline in breadth, depth, and rigor, usually met by coursework required for the degree major.

c) Professional Achievement Equivalence
The employee or applicant must have completed the general education requirements for any Bachelor's or Associate's degree, and show evidence of outstanding professional achievement and/or substantial training in the requested field. The employee or applicant must submit substantial evidence, which demonstrates that their preparation, teaching experience, work experience, and ability are equivalent to those expected from a person who meets the minimum qualifications.
