Position Summary
Big Bend Community College invites applications for Associate (part-time) Faculty positions in the college's Math Department.

BBCC is a small rural community college located in the sunny, central part of Washington State, and is accredited by the Northwest Commission on Colleges and Universities. Big Bend Community College serves approximately 4,000 students, with an annualized FTE of approximately 2,000, in a 4,600-square-mile service district including 15 communities in Grant and Adams counties and the Odessa School District in Lincoln County with on-site, online instruction, and interactive classrooms.

This position is responsible to prepare and teach transfer-level courses in Mathematics. This position reports to the Dean of Arts & Sciences and works closely with the Math/Science Division Chair as well as other faculty and staff.

Associate Faculty receive quarterly contracts. Payment is based on $723.49/per lecture credit.

Essential Job Duties
Primary essential responsibilities include but will not be limited to the following:
  • Prepare and teach assigned courses (including Math in Society, Statistics, and Pre-calculus) in accordance with the Master Course Outline and in consultation with a full-time faculty member.
  • Maintain an educational environment that promotes student learning and success.
  • Meet the class times as required by the quarterly schedule.
  • Assist students with questions related to the course(s) being taught.
  • Maintain frequent communication with their students
  • Refer students to appropriate college resources as needed.
  • Maintain and submit grades and attendance reports to college personnel when required.
  • Maintain student course materials for two (2) quarters beyond the quarter of attendance.
  • Submit assessment data in consultation with a full-time faculty member in the department.
  • Assist with development, selection, and/or recommend selection of instructional materials for courses being taught.
  • Post syllabi quarterly to the online portal for each course taught.


Minimum & Desirable Qualifications
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
At the time of application, the candidate must possess the following:

  • Master's degree in Math, Statistics, or in a related field from a regionally accredited institution with significant coursework in graduate-level mathematics or currently enrolled in a master's program in mathematics, statistics, or a related field.
  • Experience working with individuals from diverse academic, age, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, and ethnic backgrounds and first-generation college students.

DESIRABLE QUALIFICAITONS:
  • Teaching experience at the community college level.
  • Experience working with non-traditional students.
  • Experience using innovative teaching techniques.
  • Experience with online homework systems (WAMAP, MyOpenMath, MyMathLab, Aleks, ConnectMath, WebWork, etc.).
  • Experience with online learning, hybrid courses, and learning management systems (Canvas, Blackboard, etc.).
  • Bilingual English/Spanish proficiency.
