Posting Context Statement:
This position will guide in retention, care practices for the university, maintain traditions, establish a vision for future direction on campus for Fraternity & Sorority Life (FSL), have knowledge regarding best practices in Student Affairs and fraternity and sorority advising, combine with needs of the institution, be responsible for providing holistic advising and leadership of the Greek community, serve as primary representative of the universitys FSL system to external constituencies.

Position Overview:
The Director for Fraternity & Sorority Life (FSL) provides strategic leadership, vision, and oversight for the Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life (OFSL) and all affiliated Greek-letter organizations at the University of Idaho. The Director advances student retention, support, and well-being, upholds important campus traditions, and establishes a clear direction for the future of fraternity and sorority life. Serving as the universitys primary representative for the Greek community, the Director collaborates with students, alumni, national headquarters, and community partners to foster a vibrant and engaged FSL experience.

Duties include:
  • Lead the Office of Fraternity & Sorority Life, providing holistic advising and support to all fraternity and sorority chapters and peer governing councils
  • Promote a strong FSL community through initiatives that support academic success, leadership development, community service, and philanthropy
  • Develop, implement, and enforce university policies related to Greek-letter organizations
  • Create and execute strategic programs that strengthen and grow the fraternity and sorority community
  • Serve as the primary liaison to alumni, parents, national organization headquarters, and local partners regarding FSL matters
  • Collaborate with campus and community stakeholders to address student concerns, behavioral issues, and safety
  • Support recruitment, retention, risk-prevention, and new member education efforts across all FSL chapters
  • Represent the university and the Greek system in matters of policy, conduct, programming, and community expectations
  • Other duties as assigned

Required Experience:
  • Two years of professional experience within a university or fraternity/sorority headquarters setting, or a related field.
  • Active member and alumni within Greek letter organization.
  • Supervisory experience.
  • Preparing and presenting educational and leadership workshops.
  • Building collaborative relationships with students, faculty, staff, alumni, parents, headquarter staff, and community partners.

Required Education:
  • Bachelors Degree.

Required Other:
  • Ability to work nonstandard business hours, including weekends and holidays and participate in an on-call rotation as needed.
  • This is an essential position that may be called upon in the event of an emergency and/or university closure.

Additional Preferred:
  • Masters degree in Education, Higher Education, Administration, Business or related field.
  • Doctoral degree in higher education or related field.
  • Experience working in Greek community at a mid-sized public institution.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Training in and experience applying conflict resolution, restorative justice, and/or informal resolution techniques.
  • Five or more years of progressively increasing responsibility in Student Affairs, preferably in Fraternity & Sorority Life.
  • Demonstrated experience with change management, community building, and engaging multiple key stakeholders.
  • Possess excellent communication skills, both written and oral.
  • Demonstrated ability to use good judgment when making decisions without immediate direction and/or supervision.
  • Expertise in college fraternity and sorority systems and current topics in student life in higher education.
  • Knowledge of and ability to interpret and apply related federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, rules and regulations as well as knowledge of and the ability to interpret and apply related university and (inter)national council policies, procedures, principles, and practices.
  • Ability to take initiative, balance competing priorities, and exercise sound judgment under pressure.
