This position is a "pool" position meaning that openings may or may not be currently available. The District maintains a "pool" of applications for positions which are needed on an ongoing basis at Caada College, College of San Mateo, and Skyline College. The advantage of "pool" positions is when a position becomes available, the Dean may immediately begin screening applications from the available pool of applicants without having to post a position and wait while the position is being advertised. Your application for this position will be kept current for a period of two years.
Applicants should have an extensive knowledge of art and animation production (digital and traditional) and history. Traditional artistic background and experience in storyboard production and application for diverse multimedia and animation projects.
1. Teach an intermediate 3D modeling and animation course using Autodesk Maya
i. The ideal candidate will be proficient in both traditional animation techniques as well as the technical side of the production process.
2. Assist in keeping the curriculum updated and current with industry standards
3. Consult with students during scheduled office and lab hours
4. Maintain expertise in current technologies and techniques
Three years industry experience (must have experience working either as a freelance 3D animator/modeler artist or in a studio)
Demonstrated cultural competence, sensitivity to and understanding of the diverse academic, socioeconomic, cultural, disability, gender identity, sexual orientation, and ethnic backgrounds of community college students, faculty, and staff
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:
2. Basic knowledge of MEL scripting and its application and uses during an animation production pipeline
3. Basic traditional animation training
4. Basic knowledge of the Adobe suite and Quicktime
5. Experience using Photoshop for creating original textures
6. Knowledge of traditional and digital 2D animation and digital video
7. Experience creating original storyboard art for different kinds of projects
8. Experience working in multiple computer platforms and system configurations
9. Industry experience either in a design studio or freelancing
10. Ability to communicate effectively and constructively with persons of diverse cultures, language groups, and abilities
11. Understanding of the commercial and business side of 3D animation, modeling and story-boarding, including contracting and working as part of a larger team
